FOURTEEN FEMALE EAGLE SCOUTS HONORED AT EXAMPLES OF SUCCESS DINNER

Virginia Beach, Va. – Fourteen young women, the first female Eagle Scouts in the Tidewater Council Boy Scouts of America, were honored at the inaugural Examples of Success Dinner on Wednesday, February 1, 2023.

The event, sponsored by ABNB Federal Credit Union, was held at 6:00 PM in the Town Center City Club, 222 Central Park Avenue, Suite 230, in Virginia Beach. Town Center City Club founder Barbara Lewis hosted the event.

These remarkable young women are the first to earn the Eagle Scout Award, the highest achievement in the Scouts BSA program. The inaugural class of seven earned the award on February 8, 2021, Scouting’s anniversary. Three more earned their Eagle Award in 2021. Another four young women became Eagle Scouts in 2022.

Shelayne Boswell, Senior Vice President/Commercial Lender at Southern Bank and Trust Co., was the featured speaker at the event. She has been a Tidewater Council BSA board member since 2020 and is on the Lake Prince Woods Retirement Community advisory council board. She volunteers at the Crisis Pregnancy Center of Tidewater and Nansemond River Baptist Church.

Two young women also spoke, including one of the Eagle Scouts being honored. Simone Nied is an Eagle Scout from Virginia Beach and is a sophomore at the Entrepreneurship and Business Academy at Kempsville High School. She recently became the first in Tidewater Council to receive the prestigious Duke of Edinburgh International Bronze Award for community service.

The second youth speaker wass Gidget Schlossberg. She is a member of Scouts BSA Troop 1791 in Virginia Beach and attends Norfolk Academy. In 2018, she became one of the first female Cub Scouts in the Tidewater Council.
