Virginia Beach, Va. – Virginia Beach Scout leader Jon McGlothian has been recognized as a “Living Legend of Tidewater Council.” He was honored by Scouting America Tidewater Council at its Recognition Banquet on April 30, 2025, at the Khedive Shrine Center in Chesapeake.

The Living Legends of Tidewater Council award recognizes well-known living volunteers who have generously given untold amounts of their time, resources, and talents to the Scouting program. Tidewater Council’s service area encompasses the Virginia cities of Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Norfolk, and Portsmouth, as well as seven northeastern North Carolina counties.

As a lifelong Scout, Jon McGlothian began his journey in Tennessee. His father served as Cubmaster, and his mother was a den leader.

Even as a youth, Jon contributed to the growth of Scouting by helping the Middle Tennessee Council establish new units. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout with a Bronze Palm and was inducted into the Order of the Arrow.

He has served in numerous unit and district-level roles, including assistant Cubmaster and Cubmaster of Pack 504, assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 471, and vice chair and district chair for the Princess Anne District.

A passionate supporter of adult leader development, Jon serves as a University of Scouting instructor. He also served as a course director for Wood Badge training.

He serves on the Tidewater Council Executive Board as the vice president for District Operations. He has been the chair of the Council Nominating Committee, supports local ScoutReach efforts, and contributes to the Council Membership Committee. He also supports national efforts through his service in Scouting America’s Territory structure.

He has received several Scouting honors, including the Silver Beaver Award (Class of 2018), the Cubmaster’s Key, and the Princess Anne District Award of Merit. He is the proud father of an Eagle Scout.

Jon delivered the Eagle Challenge to the 2024 Class of Eagle Scouts at the Tidewater Council Recognition Banquet, where he was honored as a Tidewater Council Living Legend — a leader whose lifelong commitment to youth and Scouting continues to shape its future and inspire generations of youth and volunteers. McGlothian received the Living Legend honor alongside fellow Scout leaders Marc Craig and Gene Hoffman.
