News Release: Four Local Scout Leaders Honored as Living Legends

FOUR LOCAL SCOUT LEADERS HONORED AS LIVING LEGENDS

Chesapeake, Va. – Four local Boy Scouts of America leaders have been recognized as Living Legends of Tidewater Council.

The Living Legends of Tidewater Council award recognizes well-known living volunteers who have generously given untold amounts of their time and talents to the local Scouting program. Tidewater Council’s service area encompasses the Virginia cities of Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach, and the North Carolina counties of Camden, Chowan, Currituck, Dare, Gates, Pasquotank, and Perquimans.

These exemplary leaders were honored at a recognition dinner on Thursday, March 24, 2022, at the Khedive Shrine Center in Chesapeake, Virginia.

AL BARR

Al Barr became Princess Anne’s District Commissioner after several years as a unit and roundtable commissioner. His dedication to youth protection, leader training, and unit rechartering has provided a safe Scouting experience for thousands of youth in Virginia Beach.

WADE CREEL

Wade Creel became a Scoutmaster at age 21 and served in that role for 17 years. He has led volunteer teams in planning more than 75 camporees over 25 years in Albemarle District, which comprises northeastern North Carolina. He is well-known for his contributions to the cook crews for district and council events.

RALPH INGRAHAM

Ralph Ingraham has brought his experience in several packs and troops across the country to the Tidewater Council Commissioner corps. He served as a unit commissioner and assistant district commissioner before accepting in the Bayside District Commissioner role, in which he serves Scout units in Norfolk and northern Virginia Beach.

LORENE SYBRANDT

Lorene Sybrandt has served in a variety of pack, troop, district, and council roles. During “Doctor Mom’s” 15 years as a Scoutmaster in Virginia Beach, 52 young men achieved the highest rank of Eagle Scout.
