VIRGINIA BEACH LIFE SCOUT TO RECEIVE BSA'S MEDAL OF MERIT

Virginia Beach, Va. – A Virginia Beach Boy Scout is receiving a national award – the Medal of Merit – from the Boy Scouts of America.

Brighton Doebler, 15, was waiting for his mother to pick him up from Landstown High School in Virginia Beach on February 6, 2023. While waiting, he witnessed a two-car accident on the corner of Princess Anne Road and Concert Drive. The driver of one car managed to get out of the vehicle by the time Brighton arrived at the scene. He immediately checked on the other driver and found her unconscious. So, Brighton assessed her injuries and checked her vital signs. When the second driver regained consciousness, Brighton supported her neck and assisted her out of the vehicle and to the side of the street out of further harm’s way. He stayed with her until Virginia Beach Rescue arrived.

Brighton Doebler is a Life Scout in Scouts BSA Troop 791, chartered by VFW Back Bay Post 1211 in Virginia Beach.

Brighton will be honored at a recognition dinner at 6:00 PM on Thursday, May 11, 2023, at the Khedive Shrine Center, 645 Woodlake Drive, Chesapeake, Virginia.
