Albemarle District Freezoree
January 23-25, 2026
Many Scouts have gone to camp before, but this camp will be truly unique.
Prepare to be transported to the 1600s during the early settlement of the Carolinas. A decree has been issued:
It is hereby decreed that all the clans (troops, posts, crews, and ships) within the lands held by Lord Proprietor of the Carolinas and Commander and Chief of Scotland, George Monck, the 1st Duke of Albemarle (the area of Albemarle District) shall present all their able-bodied youth for testing of athletic prowess and skill at the Albemarle District Highland Games. Clans of the Tidewater region in the Colony of Virginia are duly invited. The games will be held at the Encampment of Dinkerderry in Tyner in the County of Chowan within the Province of Carolina.
The events shall include the Haggis Hurl, Tug O’ War, Welly Tossing, Raiding Ladder Build, Sheaf Toss, and Maide-leisg. Clans are encouraged to adopt a tartan and wear it to all events. Tastefully worn kilts are highly encouraged.
The winner of the Games shall receive the coveted Crystal Thistle award.

The $80 Ski/Snowboard Package includes everything you need for a full day on the mountain: lift ticket, equipment rental, helmet, and a group lesson (ages 8+). Whether you’re carving the trails, hitting the terrain park, or enjoying some tubing fun, this is your chance to make lasting memories on the slopes with fellow Scouts and families.
Don’t miss out! Register by January 22, 2026 to lock in your spot for an action-packed day of winter adventure! The whole family can get the special savings, even if you’re not a registered Scout or leader.
Ski/Snowboard Package ($80) Includes:
- Lift ticket, good for all open areas and from resort opening to close on 1/25/2026
- Equipment rental for the day (must choose Ski or Snowboard)
- Helmet rental
- Group lesson (any skill level, based on availability, and must be minimum age 8)
Extras Available:
- Meal Voucher: $18.00
- Snowtubing: $40.00. This is a 2-hour 45-minute session, or $65.00 for all day. You can select tubing as a stand-alone session and not go skiing/snowboarding. Tubing availability is limited. You can choose your preferred time slot.
Equipment and Voucher Pickup:
- A Tidewater Council staff member will be set up to hand out vouchers and lift tickets at 7:30 AM on 1/25/26 at the “Mickey’s Group Check-In” building, which is adjacent to the front of the parking lot.
- If you are unable to arrive by 8:00 AM on the Ski Day (1/25/26), a Tidewater Council staff member will be available to get your vouchers to you upon your arrival at Winterplace.
- Upon request: Vouchers and rentals can be picked up on Saturday (1/24/26) at Winterplace. Send your request to Matt Little ([email protected]) and Jamie Parnell ([email protected]) no later than 1/23/26.

Scouting for Food

Did you know that food banks are struggling to meet the daily demand? Did you know that 1 in 8 of your neighbors need help making ends meet? Did you know that, in some areas, 1 in 3 children are going to bed hungry?
Scouts can make a difference! Please sign up your unit for the Scouting for Food – Feed Your Neighbor Campaign.
The plan is simple:
- Sign up to participate.
- Distribute the provided collection bags.
- Pick up donated items.
- Deliver donated items to either the council office or the food pantry of your choice.
- Report your results.

University of Scouting
March 6-7, 2026
Scouting is a Game with a Purpose
All Scouts, prospective Scouts, leaders, parents, and volunteers are invited to attend the Tidewater University of Scouting at Old Dominion University.
This jamboree-style event offers interactive trainings and certifications, hands-on activities and adventures, merit badges and advancement opportunities, and personalized Scout quests to earn prizes and rewards.
Class selection will be available in late January 2026.
Adult College
Earn your degree or your doctorate while studying Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, and Older Youth Programs. Expand your knowledge with Continuing Education in First Aid/CPR/AED, Cooking, Scouting Heritage, Event Planning, Unit Management, Scouting Tools and Technology, Recruiting, Fundraising, and more. If you have attended University of Scouting three or more times, this is the year to start your Doctoral Program.
Youth Academies
- Youth Leader Academy is the perfect place to expand your leadership skills. Opportunities include Event Planning, Running Efficient Meetings, Time Management, Project Management, Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops (ILST), Introduction to Leadership Skills for Ships/Crews (ILS/C), and more.
- Huskanaw Academy is a chance for new Scouts BSA members to master their Scoutcraft requirements for Scout, Tenderfoot, Second Class, and First Class.
- Merit Badge Academy offers a range of badges including several required for Eagle Scout.
Junior Academies
- Dragon Academy will entertain Lions, Tigers, and younger siblings for a fun-filled day of adventure.

Princess Anne District Pinewood Derby®

Save the date for the Princess Anne District Pinewood Derby! Registration opens January 1, 2026.
Each Princess Anne Cub Scout pack’s top three winners from each rank are eligible to compete in the District Championship race. Arrow of Light Scouts (AOL) who have just bridged to a troop are still eligible.
The district races will use the 2026 Tidewater Council Pinewood Derby Rules & Procedures.

The Camporall invites Scouts ages 11+ to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence with program areas centered around eras of America, such as the Old West and the Space Age. 2026 National Jamboree Staff Band
The 2026 National Jamboree Band is actively seeking talented musicians to join its full-time staff ensemble. Composed entirely of registered Scouts and Scouters, the band provides musical support for ceremonies, special events, concerts, and entertainment throughout the National Jamboree for thousands of attendees.

MOHAB Trek

Join the Tidewater Council High Adventure Committee for an unforgettable trek and pack rafting trip to the Montana Outdoor High Adventure Base (MOHAB) in summer 2027!
MOHAB is unlike any other base. Its remote location and treks going into the Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex offer many possibilities. With the rugged wilderness and the multi-sport expedition format, each trek becomes a truly unique experience. Participants will explore pristine landscapes, take on challenging physical and team-building experiences, while growing in independence and leadership throughout the adventure.

World Scout Jamboree
July 30 - August 8, 2027
The World Scout Jamboree is held every four years around the world. The next Jamboree will be held in Gdansk, Poland in the summer of 2027 and will have approximately 45,000 Scouts and leaders from over 140 countries in attendance.
Age Requirements
- Participants must be between the ages of 14-17 at the start of the Jamboree on July 30, 2027.
- Those over 17 at the start of the Jamboree can apply to be a unit leader or on staff.
- Those under age 14 are not eligible to attend the 2027 World Scout Jamboree. Save the date for the 2031 World Scout Jamboree in Denmark!

Key Steps for Membership and Unit Renewal
Steps for Unit Renewal
- Unit Key 3 Member logs on to my.Scouting.org and navigates to Organization Manager > Unit Renewal.
- Validate information.
- Check leadership positions and make sure the correct names are listed in the correct positions. The Chartered Organization Representative or delegate can use “Position Manager” (also found in Organization Manager) to edit. Wait overnight for the data jobs to run and then revalidate.
- E-sign the page.
- Unit pin review.
- Continue to Unit Renewal.
- Select payment method.
- Pay online by credit card or ACH.
- Follow prompts to use a saved credit card or add a new one.
- Follow prompts to print summary sheet and pay at council.
- The annual charter agreement is mandatory and must be obtained outside of the electronic process. After completing the updated charter agreement, submit it to the council office.
Steps for Units Renewing their Members
- Unit Key 3 Member logs on to my.Scouting.org and navigates to Organization Manager > Roster.
- Select the members to renew.
- Create renewal orders. Review/select the positions to renew for each person. Create renewal orders.
- Select payment method. Pay online by credit card or ACH. Follow prompts to use a saved credit card or add a new one.
Steps for Parents Renewing their Youth's Membership
- Log on to my.Scouting.org. If the parent/guardian does not have a my.Scouting account, an account must be created in the parent/guardian name. Visit my.Scouting.org to create an account. The Scout’s member ID number is needed to link the parent/guardian account. The member ID number can be provided by the unit leader, committee chairperson, or unit membership chair. It can also be found in membership renewal emails. Only the parent/guardian who is linked to the Scout will be able to renew them when it is time for the annual renewal.
- Click on the notification icon (red notification symbol). Only one youth member can be renewed at a time. Follow prompts through the renewal process and e-sign for renewal.
- Select payment option.
- Pay online. Follow the prompts to pay by credit card.
- Pay at the council office. Follow the prompts to print the document and submit it with payment to the local council office.
- Repeat the process for each youth family member.
Steps for Adults Renewing their Membership
- Log on to my.Scouting.org. If the leader has never logged on before, they will need their member ID number and to create a login with a username and password. The member ID number can be provided by the unit leader, committee chairperson, or unit membership chair. It can also be found in membership renewal emails.

2026 Pinewood Derby® Rules
Cub Scout families, are you ready to build your Pinewood Derby car over winter break? The rules and inspection sheet for 2026 Pinewood Derbies are now available.
All Tidewater Council district races and the council derby will use the official Tidewater Council Pinewood Derby Rules & Procedures and the TWC Pinewood Derby Car Inspection Form.
Scouting Safety Moment
It is recommended to include a Scouting Safety Moment during meetings to inform Scouts and parents and keep everyone safe. Numerous Scouting Safety Moments are available here.
Histoplasmosis
Histoplasmosis is an infection caused by a fungus known as Histoplasmosis capsulatum, commonly found in soil enriched by bird and bat droppings.
To avoid exposure, do not dig in, work, or use soil in the same location as bats or that contains bird droppings. Be mindful of key risk areas, including areas where large amounts of bird or bat droppings are common, such as trees, chicken coops, caves, rock crevices, old buildings, and under bridges.

Leave a Legacy: James E. West Fellowship Award
The James E. West Fellowship Award is a national recognition for individuals who contribute $1,000 or more in cash or securities to the Tidewater Council endowment fund. This contribution is in addition to, and does not diminish or replace, the donor’s annual gift to the council’s Friends of Scouting campaign.
Organizations or individuals may contribute an award in honor of someone — an Eagle Scout, a Silver Beaver recipient, Living Legend, or any outstanding Scout or Scouter.

ScoutReach Program Aide
Tidewater Council is seeking an enthusiastic, dependable, part-time ScoutReach Program Aide to help deliver engaging afterschool Scouting programs to youth in Portsmouth and Norfolk public schools. This role plays a vital part in ensuring that children in underserved communities experience the fun, leadership development, and values that Scouting offers.
Programs are held Monday through Wednesday from 3-6 PM, with occasional weekend outings. Flexible scheduling may be available. Applicants must be over 18, and a Scouting background is preferred.

The Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources (DWR) invites the archery and conservation community to participate in the 2026 DWR Archery Open. The second annual competition will take place Saturday, January 10, 2026 in Richmond, Virginia.

Scouts in Action
Congratulations to the new Eagle Scouts in November!
Scouts from Tidewater Council Pack 413 and Pack 901, along with members of Colonial Virginia Council Pack 89, visited the USS Richard M. McCool, an active duty amphibious assault ship.
The Scouts got a hands-on glimpse into life aboard a modern warship, explored key areas of the ship, met sailors, and learned how the Navy protects our nation.

Scouts, leaders, and families gathered at Norfolk Scope Arena on December 6 for Scout Night with the Norfolk Admirals.
A special thank you to the Troop 6 Color Guard for presenting the nation’s colors during the National Anthem!
Tidewater Council donated $91,980 in popcorn to the USO Mid-Atlantic Area! That’s more than 3,500 containers, in 16 varieties.
The donations supported USO Fort Eustis (Fort Eustis, Yorktown Naval Weapons Station, and USCG Yorktown), USO Langley AFB, USO Norfolk Naval Station (Little Creek, Oceana, USCG Portsmouth, AMC Terminal), and USO Norfolk Int’l Airport.
Thank you to all the Scouts and units that supported the military donation program, to all the community members who contributed, and to the USO for supporting our nation’s heroes!
