Sea Scouting

Sea Scouting is a program of the Boy Scouts of America for young men and women ages 14 to 21. For over 100 years Sea Scouting has promoted better citizenship and improved members’ boating skills through instruction and practice in water safety, boating skills, outdoor, social, service experiences, and knowledge of our maritime heritage.

Sea Scout units – called ships – are established all across the country on oceans, bays, rivers, and lakes. They provide limitless opportunities and exciting challenges that you won’t find anywhere else. Sea Scouts is a place to grow and learn, find adventure, and build long lasting friendships.

Sea Scout Advancement

Their experiences help Sea Scouts to set realistic goals to achieve rank, accomplish projects, and gain knowledge and understanding of the world around them.Advancement opportunities include the trails to Eagle and Quartermaster. Each each requires the Sea Scout to set their own goals and follow through to achievement – requirements designed by Sea Scout youth to establish standards of performance for all Sea Scouts.

This is the source for all of Sea Scout needs!  Here you’ll find information on Sea Scout unit operation, training courses available for both youth and adult leaders.  You’ll also learn about how to be come a “Boatswain” – key youth leaders who represent Sea Scouting at all BSA levels.  Learn about the William I Koch International Sea Scout Cup, the National Scout Jamboree, scholarship opportunities and for those over 18,  how to be part of the BSA’s Florida Sea Base staff.

Sea Scout High Adventure

Tidewater Council has a long history with Sea Scouts.  We focus on Sailing and Boating around nearby coastal waters and participate in Sail Hampton Roads.  We work closely with the Coast Guard Auxiliary and US Power Squadrons to learn and promote boating safety and maritime awareness.  While learning how to sail Scouts also learn leadership skills and put them to practice.  Other high adventure activities an 80 mile canoe camping trek on James River and a week sailing in the US Virgin Islands.
