Virginia Beach, Va. – Tim Briggs was recently selected as Council Commissioner of Tidewater Council, Boy Scouts of America. In this role, he is responsible for unit service supporting more than 4,000 youth and 1,700 adult leaders in Scouting throughout Southeastern Virginia and Northeastern North Carolina.
Before his appointment as Council Commissioner, Tim served as Vice President of Relationships and served on the Tidewater Council, Boy Scouts of America Executive Board. An Eagle Scout, Tim is the Scoutmaster for Troop 6 in Chesapeake. His past service opportunities include Cubmaster of Pack 6 in Chesapeake, Three Rivers District Chair for Tidewater Council, Three Rivers District Friends of Scouting Chair, and Cub Scout Twilight Camp Program Director.
In the community, Tim serves on the Board of Directors at NAE Federal Credit Union and the Young Professionals Advisory Committee at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center. Along with Christi, his wife of twenty years, and their children, Hannah and Parker, Tim is an active member of Great Bridge Baptist Church, serving in the music ministry and as a middle school Sunday school teacher. Tim served as the Chair of the Committee on Ministry Teams, where he helped recruit and place volunteers for a decade. He is also a member of the Chesapeake Rotary Club and Great Bridge Masonic Lodge No. 257.
Briggs is the managing director and owner of Briggs Funeral Home & Crematory in Chesapeake. He is a licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer in both Virginia and North Carolina, as well as a Virginia Certified Crematory Operator, helping families plan personalized life celebration services, both traditional and contemporary. Tim also holds a Life, Health, and Annuities license with the Virginia Bureau of Insurance, with which he assists families with funeral pre-planning insurance, savings trusts, and Medicaid-qualified accounts.
He attended Great Bridge-area schools and graduated from Hickory High School in Chesapeake. Tim also has the distinct honor of graduating from the prestigious Governor’s School for the Arts in Norfolk. He later graduated from John Tyler Community College, with a degree in Mortuary Science.
Tidewater Council is the 5th oldest Boy Scouts of America council in the United States, established in 1911.
