For faith based organizations considering a Scouting program
Our church is considering adding Boy Scouts of America programs to our outreach ministries and community service. Scouting is a values-based program with its own code of conduct. The Scout Oath and Law help instill the values of good conduct, respect for others, and honesty. Scouts learn skills that will last a lifetime, including basic outdoor skills, first aid, citizenship skills, leadership skills, how to earn their way, and how to get along with others. For over a century, Scouting has instilled youth with the values and knowledge they need to become leaders in their community and country. For us, the most relevant of the twelve points of the Scout Law is: “A Scout is Reverent.”
A volunteer committee is needed within our church to organize a program and select the best leadership for a new Scouting program. Please contact [identify the individual at the church] to find out more and join the team.

The Boy Scouts of America invites you and your family to become a part of one of America’s leading values-driven organizations.
Cub Scouting is for kids in kindergarten through 5th grade. Cub Scouting is a valuable resource that can help families accomplish worthy goals, while building and strengthening relationships within the family. Cub Scouting combines fun with educational activities and lifelong values. It also helps parents to help their children strengthen character, develop good citizenship, and enhance both mental and physical fitness. In addition, the program provides youth with positive peer groups and tools to shape their future. In Cub Scouting, kids learn values like honesty, bravery, and respect. This focus helps children make constructive decisions throughout their lifetimes and gives them the confidence they need to grow and develop.
According to a study conducted by Louis Harris & Associates, “Character may be defined as the ‘willingness to do what is right regardless of circumstances.’ Cub Scouting teaches kids what is right, in part by encouraging them to reflect on lessons learned through Cub Scout activities.”
When Cub Scouts become 5th graders, they are eligible to join Scouts BSA. Scouts BSA is for youth ages 11 through 17.
Venturing, Sea Scouting, and Exploring are coeducational programs designed for high school age youth through age 20.
Kids can join at any time of the year. For more information on joining Scouting, please visit the Tidewater Council, Boy Scouts of America website: www.TidewaterBSA.com, call 757-497-2688, or email Christy.Cooper@scouting.org.
