YES IT’S TRUE!! And there are still a few openings left. As of December 1st, he budget committee of the council executive board has agreed to waive certain administrative fees which will lower the cost of the Jamboree to a target of approximately $1250. The exact fee will depend upon final transportation arrangements, but will be close to $1250.
How much does it cost to attend?
As announced above the total cost per participant to be approximately $1,250 for youth and other adult leaders, as many associated costs for transportation, pre-Jamboree activities and other program support materials cannot be determined this far in advance. To help with managing the cost, fee payments must be made periodically on certain due dates over the course of 2016 until the total fee is fully paid up. The Jamboree fee schedule will be revised shortly.

How to register as a youth:
NOTE: Registration of youth is on a first-come first-served basis based on the order that the council receives a completed 2017 Jamboree Youth Application form, with payment of required fees. Youth participants must be approved by their unit leader (Scoutmaster, Crew Advisor or Varsity Coach) and by the Tidewater Council Jamboree Committee
STEP ONE: Go to the official Jamboree 2017 site link above and click on the “REGISTER” button. NOTE: This part of the registration is not an approval to attend the Jamboree, but a request to be part of the Tidewater Council’s Jamboree contingent.
SPECIAL NOTE : If you have problems signing up online at bsajamboree.org, it may be because your unit’s charter has not cleared processing. Contact your unit Committee Chair who will know.
STEP TWO: Fill out and submit to the Tidewater Council, with required fees (plus any overdue fees), the 2017 Jamboree Youth Application – Troop or Crew (download links at the bottom). The Tidewater Council Jamboree Committee will review all registrations to make sure that the youth applicant meets the requirements to attend and will inform the applicant as soon as possible of acceptance.
Are you interested in becoming a Jamboree Troop or Jamboree Crew leader? The process is similar to the youth registration process, except that adult Jamboree leaders are chosen from those that apply through the National Jamboree web site and are then selected by the Council Jamboree Committee. Here is the process:
STEP ONE: Go to the official Jamboree 2017 site link above and click on the “REGISTER” button. NOTE: This part of the registration is not an approval to attend the Jamboree as a leader, but an expression of desire to hold one of the leadership positions on one of the Council’s Jamboree contingents. Your registration information will be transmitted to the council for review.
STEP TWO: As soon as possible, fill out and submit to the Tidewater Council, with $200 registration fee, the Jamboree Adult Jamboree Application indicating the Jamboree leader position desired. The Tidewater Council Jamboree Committee will review all applicants and will notify the selected leaders early in 2016. If there are more applicants than positions open, those not selected will be promptly refunded their initial registration fee.
